Since the most ancient times, rings have always been considered among the objects most rich of meaning and symbols. Its circular shape connect the ring to the concept of perfection and eternity, but over time it also has become a symbol of power, magic and relationship with people we love.

The ring is a mysterious and fascinating talisman and this year the trendiest designers give this beautiful fashion jewels a strongly communicative impulse, using shapes and symbols to express the style and character of modern women.

There are rings linked to the concept of good luck, with shapes representing the zodiac signs, proposed by Givenchy, or stars, which this year decorate the fashion rings created by Saint Laurent, Roberto Cavalli, Miu Miu and Federica Tosi. But also those with small lucky charms that Dolce & Gabbana brings on catwalk combined with other showy fashion jewels, like choker necklaces and clinking bracelets.

Rings also express authority and power. For strong and self-confident contemporary women, seal rings are ideal, proposed in classic and almost male versions by Saint Laurent and Ann Demeulemeester, while Versace represents its iconic Medusa’s head in those inspired by ancient times.

Shapes and colors are also taken from natural world, with luxurious and decidedly eye-catching cocktail rings, like the maxi stylized flower-shaped ones by Oscar De La Renta, or those by Gucci, which expresses the female sensuality through snake-shaped rings.

For the most cutting-edge and unconventional women there are, instead, the skulls decorating the Alexander McQueen’s burnished metal rings and the ultra-colorful pop icons by Bijoux De Familie.

To express identity and good taste, there is a trend of using the most famous brands’ logos as ornamental motifs to decorate the rings. The logomania invades many fields of women’s clothing and accessories and fashion jewellery in particular, with the proposals by Gucci, Moschino, Balenciaga and Carolina Bucci.

Minimal or statement: modern rings choose unusual shapes and materials to express all their character

On catwalks, we have seen of all colors and shapes. Rings were the protagonists of the women's collections and stand out for their elegance, but especially for their large dimensions and, sometimes, unusual materials.
